What are you buying?

One of the supposedly easiest considerations to make when trying to shop ethically is the distance food has travelled.

British beef travels far less than New Zealand lamb on the journey to your shopping basket, so it must be better for the environment, right?

The short trip across the channel that the French Chardonnay made was far less damaging than the thousands of miles travelled by the Chilean Sauvignon Blanc. But does this make the former more ethical?
