Weekly Photo Challenge: Dreaming

Every Friday, the fine folk over at The Daily Post issue a weekly photo challenge. This weeks challenge is Dreaming.

Dream. We chose this week’s photo challenge subject because it utilizes one technique we love to play around with: long exposures. Sometimes we use a neutral density filter; other times, we go organic and get the aperture, ISO and shutter speed to align perfectly in an effort to give our shots an otherworldly sense of escapism. (Using a long exposure is also a great way to blur people and other unwanted “noise” out of your photo.)

Kitty has a dream…

My kitty has a dream. Maybe that dream is to be a real human and drink from the tap, or to be a lolcat star – I can’t decide which.

Kitty dreams of fine tastes

Recently a parcel from Maggie Beer arrived containing some much awaited verjuice. I was trying to photograph the products when the kitty wanted in on the action. I am pretty sure all the photos have a nose and whiskers in them. She dreams of being the centre of attention…

Kitty dreams what the smells may mean

Kitty smells all new things and I am sure she dreams about hidden kitty enemies. Ahh how she dreams.

Mostly kitty dreams of sun light fields.

This perhaps is the ultimate kitty dream. Kitty is an inside cat and has never been outside. She does however love to sit on the windowsill and watch the happenings of the day, dreaming of fields of clover. Ahh, keep dreaming, Kitty!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Movement

Every Friday, the fine folk over at The Daily Post issue a weekly photo challenge. This weeks challenge is Movement.

How do you show movement in your photos? This photo choice is a very deliberate show of movement through the camera lens and the blurring lights, but how else can you show movement of objects, or of the action that’s happening in your picture? Share a picture that means MOVEMENT to you!

The Sushi Train

I took this photo this weekend while dining at Sushi Train. The “train” was moving quite fast making it difficult to photograph. When I checked the images last night, I actually really liked this one. A blog post about eating at the Sushi Train will be out this week.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Hands

Every Friday, the fine folk over at The Daily Post issue a weekly photo challenge. This weeks challenge is Hands.

Hands.  Hands can be instrumental in a photo – they emphasis, they hide, they reveal. They can be the star of the show, or just a prop to help the main attraction stand out better.

Cooking is all about hands. It’s about touching and using your hands to work some magic. Even given all the cooking I do, I have very few photos of my hands but I hope you will enjoy this selection.

To make Chicken Cacciatore, one must egg wash and flour the chicken pieces.

And try not to burn your hands like I did here.

Preparing the won tons for our favourite lunch – won ton soup.

One of my favourites – Vietnamese Rice Paper Rolls.

I love eating with my hands. Finger foods are an awesome way of grounding ones self. Here I am eating some Laab.

There is something amazing about using finger foods at a communal meal for bring people together. Here, Kat and Joe enjoy the Laab Kat prepared.

Joe and Brittany eat the ultimate finger food – tacos.

I’ve decided to be very game and add one final photo (This edit happened some 12 hours after I originally published this post.) The following photo is of a hand and is perhaps the most precious photo I have. It is the hand of my son, Tyler who died not long after this photo was taken. Tyler would have been 3 this coming July.

My darling Tyler, always missed and never forgotten.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Blue

Every Friday, the fine folk over at The Daily Post issue a weekly photo challenge. This weeks challenge is LATE but here it is nevertheless. This weeks challenge is Blue.

Blue. We’ve done red before, but what about blue? What do you associate blue with? The sky, the ocean…and what else? See how creative you can get with blue.

I am fairly sure I have shared this photo with you before. I too it a few weeks ago. It’s a 1 metre international class remote-controlled yacht. These amazing little crafts were racing around the lake near home, and I just loved this regal looking little blue number.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Unfocused

Every Friday, the fine folk over at The Daily Post issue a weekly photo challenge. This weeks challenge is Unfocused.

Unfocused. You may curse or cheer this week’s theme. We’re looking for that picture which is unfocused. It may be completely intentional, or accidental. You might have thought about trashing it, but in the end it definitely conveys something.

I wish I could say this was a hard challenge, but sadly I have more unfocused photos then sharp ones! I am pretty sure my name is Rhianna “Unfocused” Blackthorn. I hope you will enjoy this selection of “foodie” photos.

Wanna bite of blurry Spinach and Cheese Cannelloni?

Unfocused is as unfocused does when making Buttermilk Chicken.

This Eggy Cabbage recipe was a hit, but this photo sure wasnt!

This Sweet Potato and Lentils Curry dish has become a bit of a favourite here at home, but this photo…

Enthusiastic reader, Narf77 yesterday mentioned that sourdough is the new “in” thing. I think if they saw this blurry, bubbling sourdough starter mess, they’d think twice about it.

One of my favourite lunches, grilled garlic zucchini and leeks on toast suddenly looks like a dogs breakfast…

Weekly Photo Challenge: Together

Every Friday, the fine folk over at The Daily Post issue a weekly photo challenge. This weeks challenge is Together.

This should be a simple challenge for most of you – find a picture of people or things which are together in your picture. Share a picture that means TOGETHER to you!

This photo was taken very late one night after a birthday party. Joe and I were cuddling in the hallway of a friend’s house, sleepily sharing space and time. It’s common for us to steal moments of intimacy like this – we tend to do it several times a day. This tactile interaction is essential for both of us, and although society frowns on such open displays of affection, we chose to ignore such dogma.

On this occasion, unknown to us, a friend had picked up a camera and had clicked off a few photos. We fell in love with this photo the instant we saw it. Its become to be our “couples” photo. Joe uses it as his Facebook profile picture, and I had it mounted on a piece of wood for our 5th anniversary last December. To us, its our symbol of us – together.

For my regular readers, the photo on my environmental blog The Environmental Rhi-Source is different from the post here! It’s quite a special story and photo and I hope you will enjoy it.
